ThymogenLongevity
Thymus-derived dipeptide (Glu-Trp) studied for immune modulation; trialed in the US as IM862.
Overview
Thymogen is the dipeptide L-glutamyl-L-tryptophan (Glu-Trp / EW), isolated from the calf-thymus extract thymalin by Vladimir Khavinson and colleagues and developed into a Russian immunomodulating pharmaceutical. The same molecule was tested in the West as IM862 in US-registered trials: a 25-patient phase II in kidney cancer produced no tumor responses and no drug-related moderate or severe toxicity, and a 202-patient placebo-controlled phase III in AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma found it no better than placebo, with a shorter time to progression. Smaller Russian studies report immune effects, and rat work links it to longer maximum lifespan and fewer tumors, but it is not FDA-approved and research-market vials are not the pharmaceutical product.
